The 3-Tour Challenge takes only one day to complete. In 2005 the event raised a PGA tour record $4 million dollars, including player donations. This has made the event very popular, broadcast yearly on television and radio, tape-delayed until the beginning of the Christmas season. The tournament itself is handicapped to even-out the field: the PGA pros tee-off from full-length and the distance decreases logically for the seniors and LPGA players, who begin at closer distances to level the competition.
Lake Las Vegas is home to the next Wendy's Challenge. The area has many casinos and hotels: Casino Monte Lago, The Lake Las Vegas Ritz-Carlton, Loews Resort, and the Monte Lago Village Resort. There is a dam that helped create the landscape in Lake Las Vegas. It is a wonder to behold, twenty stories high, with as much dirt used to make it as is needed in many of the world's largest concrete dams. Because of its size and pipe system, the dam is in need of constant maintenance and structural work.
Lately, the Wendy's Challenge has been donating funds to help with adoption alternatives for teen pregnancy and other charities. Dave Thomas, the tournament sponsor, was an adopted child, once stating, "This is not someone else's responsibility, these children are our responsibility." The creation of the Dave Thomas Foundation and introduction of the Wendy's Challenge has a purpose, mainly, to assure permanent homes for thousands of foster children. The Wendy's Wonder Years Program has served more than 5,000 children! The goal is to double that amount by 2011!
