The Wells Fargo Bank is the quiet sponsor of this event. Knowing full well the irony of tossing money at a golf tourney with the right hand while grabbing money out of assets relief programs with the left, Fargo has muted their name, so to speak, from the billboard. It's refreshing that the bank has chosen such a striking course and great city, while remaining true to a long documented support of golf. Arguably, the bank is certainly not wasteful when promoting sports, athletes, fans and family.

For those of you who ever bought tickets to the great PGA event called the Wachovia Championship, now is the time to be the first to get great deals on a band new golf tournament with a brand new name! The pride of Charlotte finally is getting to host its own PGA championship. Having already hosted the PaineWebber Invitational and the Kemper Open, Quail Hollow Club has the distinction of placing its name at the top of a PGA Tournament: the Quail Hollow Championship. The beauty of the Piedmont, North Carolina area combines with George Cobb's architectural achievement to stunning effect, intensified by the startlingly wise revamps, done in the 80s, by Palmer, and, then, beginning in 1997 by Fazio. The course is like a painting that got worked on by Modigliani, then Picasso, and finally Tom Fazio did his best Rockwell imitation.
The plateaus and hills push the physiographic landscape one way, while the golf course seems to push in the opposite direction. Often the sights are blind and the flight patterns dissect areas of the course with an exciting combination of simplicity and boldness for which many Palmer courses are known.
