Since a few years ago, this title has been sponsor-less. Its fate has been uncertain. Recently, PGA officials announced its deal with Portable On Demand Storage (a Clearwater, Florida storage firm) was going to exercise its "withdraw option," leaving the tournament without official backing. Luckily, shortly thereafter, a new company stepped to the rescue. Transitions Optical (from Largo) decided to keep the tournament in Florida (where their company is headquartered). Since then the purse, field, and hopes of this happy championship has increased, become better, and seems ready to soar to new heights.
Transitions Championship is one of the newest PGA events on the 2010 schedule. Palm Harbor is one of the PGA's most celebrated places to view a tournament, very popular. Retief Goosen, the 2009 champ from South Africa, is returning this Thursday Mar 18 ' Sunday Mar 21, 2010 to attempt to win it all again. In 2009, Goosen was running putts past the hole, had a few bogeys, and was close on every shot. Then his game all clicked together and he was shooting superb golf. He won with a 276 score, 8 under par, taking home $972,000 of the nearly $5.5 million purse.
