The NASCAR Sprint All-Star Race has been known by several names but a ticket to any of these races is a chance to see some of the greats doing what they do best. Originally known as The Winston up until 2004, the race was then called the Nextel All-Star Challenge until 2007. Under the banner of Sprint, the All-Star Challenge is quite simply a race in which only winners that either own a car or drive one are invited to compete. The guest driver or team must have won a race in the previous season and the current season. Winners of the past ten events and Cup series champions from past decades are also eligible. The top two finishing drivers of the Sprint qualifying race or those who are still on the lead lap in the race called the Sprint Showdown are voted on by the NASCAR fans and then placed in All-Star contention.

Regardless of how they get in the race, every NASCAR participant would love to get their hands on a ticket to be a part of the Sprint All-Star Challenge, as it is one of the highest honors of appreciation one can receive in the season. Since 1985, when the race was held at the Charlotte Motor Speedway which was called Lowe's Motor Speedway at the time, the All-Star Challenge sold tickets to NASCAR racing fans until 1986 when it made the Atlanta Motor Speedway its new home.
The main difference between this race and all the others of the NASCAR brand is that the only thing that counts is winning. Where as in other races the key to victory in the season and series is the collection of points per race, this is an all out frenzy of road masters out to show their stuff to the world. A ticket to cherish is one to the Sprint All-Star Challenge. As a result, it is not uncommon for fans to witness frequent crashes and a major lack of continuum from the starting line positions. One million dollars and bonus prizes for the winners of each segment are on the line and no NASCAR driver worth a hill of beans is going to let up when on course for a one way ticket to the record books and a major deposit at the bank.
With a frequently changing format, the fifty lap segment has a mandatory four tire green flag ruled pit stop on the twenty-fifth lap, two twenty lap segments, then a ten minute break and finally a lap shootout to end all shootouts to place the winner of the NASCAR Sprint All-Star Challenge on his or her throne. While an unbelievably cool gift, a ticket to this race is something a true NASCAR fan will savor for personal use.
Highlights in the memories of ticket holders and fans worldwide have been classic NASCAR gold. Past Sprint All-Star Challenges included the time in 2005 when Trent Cherry of Penske Racing entertained the crowd with an improvised mosh pit before the race. He danced into the infield area and anyone who bought a ticket to be a part of the crowd was part of his brazenly audacious display. Legendary basketball player Michael Jordan once gave the command at the race. Even the Red Hot Chili Peppers got into the act when they performed in 2006 during the breaks that occurred between both the second and third segments.
There is never a dull moment when you have a ticket to be a part of the NASCAR Sprint All-Star Challenge
