Officially, the 2007 Open passed the $800 million mark in total contributions. In 2009, Paul Casey donated $100,000 from his purse winnings. "[The Shell Houston Open] is something about which Jocelyn and I feel very strongly," he said nodding toward his wife. Casey is expected to play in 2010. Johnson Wagner and Adam Scott of Australia, two recent champions, too, are expected to join the field. This event has been in-and-around Houston since 1922. It became PGA accredited by 1937. Some of the event champions include: Arnold Palmer, Bobby Nichols, Ed Sneed, Hal Sutton, and most recently Paul Casey of England'”plus 63 other great winners. The tournament has traversed between River Oaks Country Club, Memorial Park, BraeBurn, Sharpstown Country Club, Champions Golf Club, The Woodlands, before settling into the Redstone. (Only in 1973 did the event venture outside of Houston: Quail Valley Country Club in Missouri City, Texas.)

(HGA is a non-profit organization that helps secure high profile events for many local charities.) The 2010 purse is expected to top $6,000,000 with over one million dollars going to the winner. The world's best golfers gather to compete in the Shell Houston Open, every year. It may be Houston's biggest professional sports event and one of the hugest golf games in Texas.
