It takes much effort to get things ready for a big tournament like the Seniors Championship. "Without the help of our volunteers, running this championship would not be possible," said Director Jeromy Manser. For now, Manser is working hard to get things in Colorado ready to go. Looking from the summit down upon the links, soon to be filled with some of the best golfers in the world, one expects the same longevity out of this pedigree-seeking golf course as we now obtain from having followed the careers of the old men who will soon grace this field.
Champions of the Senior PGA Championship are many. Several multiple-time and repeat winners include: Jock Hutchison (the first Houston Open ever in 1937 and again in 1947), Eddie Williams (three times between 1942 and 1946), Al Watrous (three times between 1950 and 1957), Paul Ruyan (twice, 1961 and 1962), Sam Snead (in 1964, 1965, 1967, 1970, 1972, 1973), Arnold Palmer (in 1980 and 1984), Gary Player (in 1986, 1988, 1990), Hale Irwin (thrice, 1996 to 1998), and Jay Haas won in both 2006 and 2008.
The location in Parker, a suburb of Denver, has also been chosen to host other biennial cups in the PGA, starting 2013.
Champion Ben Crenshaw and Billy Coore designed the spectacular course. It is a must-see for golf fans! The tour officials are excited, as are the administrators of the course. Make sure you don't miss it. The Senior Championship is the Colorado Golf Club's first really big PGA event and they plan to pull out all the stops.
The senior tournament is the oldest of all major championships, fully accredited by the PGA, founded at the glorious Augusta National. In terms of history, the SPGAC possesses cultivated qualities of its accumulated wisdom'”recognized formally by both the European Seniors and U.S. PGA Tours. The championship was founded in the mid-30s and has remained true to many of its original standards. The age parameter limit is still 50-and-up. Over its seven decades, eligibility rules have become greater in size and scope. Yet, the spirit of this contest as being for elite, legendary pros remains unimpaired by bureaucratic meddling. This tour has stayed wise and grown into one of golf's great success stories.
