This years headliners, Korn and Rob Zombie are both live favorites with great stage shows. Korn were "nu metal" favorites in the Nineties, eventually crossing over to mainstream success along with their style-mates Rage Against the Machine. Rob Zombie was the founding member of the band White Zombie who were active from 1985 through 1998. They combined charging metal riffs with surreal horror film imagery. They really took-off after signing to Geffen Records, going Double Platinum. (Being regulars on "Beavis and Butthead" didn't hurt either.) In 1998 Rob Zombie broke up the band and went solo with the album "Hellbilly Deluxe." The album featured a more danceable electronic groove yet remained very heavy.
The 2010 Rockstar Energy Drink Mayhem Festival will feature three stages for your musical enjoyment. Each stage will feature four acts. The main stage line up is Korn, Rob Zombie, Lamb of God and Five Finger Death Punch. The second "Mayhem Festival Stage" features Atreyu, Norma Jean, In This Moment, and 3 Inches of Blood. The "Jagermeister Stage" will have Hatebreed, Chimaira, Shadows Fall, and Winds of Plague.
Lamb of God are a double-kick drumming metal band that is a fan favorite. They incorporate a variety of styles and often confound people who see it as their place to pigeon-hole bands. Some say thrash, some say grind, some say death metal. Band member John Campbell says Lamb of God is "a punk band that plays heavy metal."
Hatebreed are a band from Connecticut that cross over from hardcore punk to metalcore. They will be headlining the Jagermeister stage . Their fifth album, simply titled "Hatebreed," was released in September 2009. The post-hardcore band Atreyu will be headlining the Mayhem Stage. Atreyu are from Orange County, California. They formed in 1998 and have released five albums, culminating in 2009's "Congregation of the Damned." Norma Jean are a metalcore band from the Atlanta area. They formed in 1997 and have released four albums. Their fifth, "Meridional" will be released in July 2010 and is their first for indie label Razor & Tie. Chimaira are a heavy metal band formed in 1998 in Cleveland. They have released five albums. Most recently, "The Infection" was released in March 2009.
In This Moment are relatively new on the scene, having formed in Los Angeles in 2005. They have an added benefit the other bands on the bill lack: their lead singer Maria Brink is a blonde bombshell (naturally popular with the predominantly male audience). She even won the "Hottest Chick In Metal" award at the 2010 Revolver Golden Gods Awards. They have released two albums, 2006's "Beautiful Tragedy" and 2008's "The Dream." Their third album, "Starcrossed Wasteland" will be released in July, 2010.
3 Inches of Blood hail from Canada and have been around since 1999. They have released four albums, the most recent of which is 2009's "Here Waits Thy Doom." Shadows Fall are a metal band from Springfield, Massachusetts. They formed in 1995 and have released six albums. Winds of Plague are a deathcore band from California. They formed in 2002 and have three albums in their catalog. The third album, "The Great Stone War" was released in August 2009.
