The Regions Charity is still managed by the Bruno family. Bruno's still owns the supermarket chain that made them famous. Lee and Angelo Bruno, the golf-loving brothers who suffered untimely death still are very much a part of this great event. Although sponsorship by the family has diminished, there have been other Alabaman businesses to help pick-up the slack. It is the largest sporting event played in the Metropolitan Birmingham area.
In past years, this Classic normally ended on a specific Sunday in May. Lately, the tournament has moved to the hot part of June. Now, the event is being played in May or April. It is the best climate, best time, and best field about to be had in 2010 for this top notch PGA charity event.
Bruno's Memorial Classic is the original name for this tournament that has been around since 1992. It is a tournament known for its sweat and heart, because it is played in the humid climate of Alabama and its Birmingham founders were sincere golf fans. It began as a Memorial Classic because the founders were killed shortly after their sponsorship was announced. Since then it has been the most popular memorial in the PGA, evoking participation from the top names in the PGA year after year.
The event takes place in Hoover at the brand new Robert Trent Jones Golf Trail (at Ross Bridge). The proud Alabama golf course is part of the Renaissance Ross Bridge Golf Resort and Spa, having received very prestigious ratings, reviews, and awards. It is arguably one of the top 500 hotels in the world.
