Everybody Loves Romano

Ray Romano is from Forest Hills, Queens and was initially going to be an accountant. Then he performed on an open mike night in 1984, had fun with it, and did well. It was also a gift to his girlfriend on their date because he wanted to give her a unique night on the town where she could watch him perform comedy.

Romano entered the Johnnie Walker Comedy Search competition in 1989, which lead to appearances on Comedy Central, and as a guest voice on Dr. Katz Professional Therapist. Romano also appeared on Cosby, The King of Queens, and The Nanny (Romano and Fran Drescher went to the same high school as Fran Drescher).

Romano also competed on Star Search. He didn't win, but a lot of great comedians who lost on Star Search went to to great careers anyways (Ray and Dennis Miller come to mind.) Romano almost got his big break with a featured role on NewRadio, where he was going to playe Joe the American, but was replaced by Joe Rogan instead.

Comedy A La Romano

Romano went on to perform on The Late Show with David Letterman, then made some connections with CBS, and David Letterman's Worldwide Pants offered Romano a development deal, which lead to his own show Everybody Loves Raymond.

Everybody Loves Raymond debuted on the CBS network in 1996. Like many comedian's shows, Everybody Loves Raymond was loosely autobiographical on Romano's life and family. Yet a New York Times headline that appeared before the show asked, 'Can [This] Sitcom Make It With Long Island Setting?'

Everybody Loves Ray Romano

Everybody Loves Raymond debuted on September 13, 1996 and ran for almost ten years, finally ending its run in 2005. It was wildly popular success, and in 2004, Ray Romano was the highest paid TV actor, breaking records for making $3.9 billion.

Everybody Loves Raymond is now in syndication in many markets all over the world. 'I'm glad that my career moved at the pace it did,' Romano said. 'If you're an overnight success, where do you go?'

A documentary about Romano's life on the road, 95 Miles to Go, was released in, and Romano is also now the star of Men of a Certain Age on TNT, which Romano created with Everybody Loves Raymond writer Mike Royce.

Ray Morano won an Emmy in 2002 for Outstanding Lead Actor in a Comedy Series, and also won the 2003 People's Choice Award as Favorite Male TV Performer. Romano has also been nominated for a Golden Globe in 2000 and 2001.

Ray Romano Live

Like Jerry Seinfeld, Romano has been craving to hit the stage again and feel the live adrenalin many comedians love. He's equally funny onstage, if not funnier, than he's been on Raymond, and if you're a fan of the show, you'll absolutely love him live.
