Phoenix International Raceway Tickets

Phoenix International Raceway tickets never fail to provide a one-way passport into the grand mythos of the track itself. The same ideology is the foundation of the NASCAR ideology and spirit of the sport. A short drive just beyond the thriving area that is primarily known as the capital of the state of Arizona stands the massive Phoenix International Raceway. Racing fans have called the track home since it first rose from the desert floor on 1964.

When the Phoenix raceway first opened it its doors to the public upon completion of a massive construction phase, open-wheel racers brought their vehicles to the track as the featured event. No one could have imagined what was to come with the bourgeoning development of NASCAR and other competitive racing leagues. However, Indy Cars were the hot ticket item of the day and brought out the likes of the legendary Mario Andretti and members of the Unser family to race the open track in a competitive league that visited the Phoenix International Speedway almost sixty times in its history.

The Copper World Classic was created and continues at the Phoenix International Raceway. Runs around the stunning oval complemented by several road courses at the facility became a traditional two day event that gathers together many of the finest top racers in from the various racing series' and places them in a competitive arena against each other. Events such as these and all of those found in professional motor car racing truly honor the legacy that was originated back in a time when chariots were navigated by the bravest competitors in front of glazed-eyed spectators.

Nature was the cause of a terrifying fire in 1987 when a strike of lighting blasted down on the massive grandstand at the Phoenix International Raceway. Luckily no one was injured but a re-construction was definitely in order, as nothing was going to take down this fixture of the west under the Arizona sky. 1988 was a monumental year, as it invited in many new permanent additions to the raceway. Turn 1 was complemented by a brand new building that lifted three stories above the track. 30,000 fans could now buy perfect tickets to attend the races. Then there came a new partnership that has gone on to last for decades.

The first ever NASCAR Cup Series debuted in at the Phoenix International Raceway that brought in capacity crowds and left thousands of fans hungry for tickets that could not get in to the race. The first of a few Cup victories occurred on November 6, 1988 for the rough and tumble racer Alan Kulwicki. He returned for yet another NASCAR Cup victory in 1992; the year in which he made even his least supportive attendees glad they had bought great tickets to the race. Upon winning the race in what was a milestone at the track, he originated his first 'Polish Victory Lap' when he ran a stunning victory lap backward around the track.

The Cup victory did not in any way discount the fact that the Sprint Cup, which at the time was known as the NASCAR Winston Cup Series, appeared at the one mile Phoenix International Raceway for the first time.

As history has recorded in the period of over 35 years that the raceway in Phoenix has been open for business, historical racing moments have continued to make a ticket to the races worth every hard-earned dollar spent on it. Tradition Cup Series races have been marked down in the annals of racing along with Southwest Series events, a National Superbike Series, and even Indy Car Races that have featured legends such as the incomparable Mario Andretti and Dale Trickle.

Current attendance can top the capacity of 76,000 fans when up to 100,000 fans without tickets have been known to regularly line the hillsides with makeshift seats of their own. Now also running under the brightest lights in the west, there is no stopping the Phoenix International Raceway from maintaining its tradition of NASCAR excellence and motor racing glory.
