"Phish 3D" is a new movie release. But Phish 4D is a live concert, in-person, with the meta-dimensional improvisational outfit from Vermont. Phish live, like the mathematical concept of fourth dimension, convey the coordinates of the universe of sound in distinctly non-Euclidean fashion. Phish tickets are unlike the movie experience, no matter how cool the movie is. Soundscape quaternions traverse between each member of the band, like no other present day jam band. "Joy" is the title of Phish's new release. The summer festivals, gigs, and super-extension of the material they perform showcase songs replete with fullness, psychedelia, groove, and undeniable phunk. Phish is sure to be a ticket this summer that will bring "Joy."

Phish is opening their new tour this summer at Toyota Park in Bridgeview, Illinois. Phish Tour 2010 swings through the East Coast in venues accorded great respect: Connecticut's Comcast Theatre in Hartford, North Carolina's Time Warner Cable Music Pavilion in Raleigh, and the wonderful Alpine Valley Music Theater in remote Eat Troy, Wisconsin. Phish is putting-on nearly thirty shows this summer. (Tickets for Phish in Berkeley at the Greek Theatre and the Town Park Shows in Telluride are nearly sold out already.)
The Grateful Dead certainly influenced Phish. Minus the Homeric, Joycian abilities of Dead lyricist Robert Hunter, Phish decidedly focussed upon accomplishable writing goals. Phish's center of interest is on activity. They move. They bounce and weave like the band Dr. Dog. They hop and dance like the Flaming Lips. They hyperextend everything they have to give. And they keep their context in the Classical Rock vein. Phish has been known to surprise audiences with complete renditions of entire classical rock albums, like The White Album by the Beatles and "Dark Side of the Moon" by Pink Floyd. Diverse, Phish can explore the serious side of music too. But, fun is definitely the name of the game at a Phish Concert. Phish write songs that make you laugh, have fun, and really ponder what it's all about: buy a Phish concert ticket now, here, and join in the distinct humour, trippy sound, and ultra-bombastic reggae-terrific progressive excellence of America's favorite post-hippy jazzmen.
Phish are so good that they can rotate instruments at will. Each member of the band can play each instrument of their bandmates. They have performed on trampoline and even vacuum. They perform versions of TV theme songs, reference obscure movies, and involve the audience each "Jump" of the way. Every available opportunity they extend warm participation invitations to their audience, who know every track off of "Picture of Nectar," "Junta," "Lawn Boy," "Rift," "Hoist," and their many fan favorite albums. Difficult to imagine logistically, Phish has even played two full games of chess with their audience during two of their past tours. And, that is Phish in a nutshell: impossible to imagine, wildly fun, and supremely imaginative. Phish is an earnest band from humble beginnings. They have never forgotten their roots, musically or socially. They are avid Greenpeace and other charity supporters. In the 1990's, Phish were tight, together, at the top of their form. They have taken several breaks since then. And musically nothing has changed; they are still as good as they ever were. Their send-up of The Who's Quadrophenia goes down as one of the greatest homages in recent memory. Festivals at places like Loring Air Force Base in Limestone, Maine, are lodged in concertgoers' minds forever. They have played at Lemonwheel, Farm Aid, and with Neil Young, Bob Weir, and even Willie Nelson. Hey, if Phish is cool enough for Willie Nelson, what other litmus test matters?
