More NHL Ticket History

While not commonly known amongst casual observers, The NHL was far from the first professional hockey league. Just after the start of the twentieth century, shortly lived organization called the International Professional Hockey League became the first ever professional league that organized players into groups as one overall league and invited fans of the sport to buy tickets beyond what had ever been available. Team owners started to become dismayed and disgruntled at the IPHL and formally disbanded it, as they started the new National Hockey League. Ultimately, this proved to be a winning ticket, as fans were now more than eager to buy tickets for a game played in the NHL.

The league was firmly re-established and gained new ground on the foundation of the original six teams that were able to outlast the bleak period in economic and world history. The Montreal Canadiens, the Bruins, the New York Rangers, and Chicago Blackhawks along with the Detroit Red Wings and Toronto Maple Leaves were the only teams a fan could buy a ticket to see take to the ice until 1967. This period is considered golden in NHL history, as it proved to be the re-establishing of a much loved professional organized sport; arguably, Canada's greatest contribution to the world!

Hockey Tickets For National Hockey League

The 1970's brought a broad expansion to the National Hockey League, as new teams were formed along with infamous rivalries that express the fire that is at the core of the passionate sport. Tickets were sold in by the thousands and even contribute to the formation of a second cooperation that was known as the World Hockey Association. The WHA was never as strong and vibrant as the NHL, and would close its doors a short while later.

There were legendary moments during the nineteen eighties and nineties when hockey fans raced for the hottest tickets in town to see players like Mario Lemieux and the great Wayne Gretzky seal their legacies in ice. Dynasties evolved from teams like the Edmonton Oilers who, with Gretzky at the core of the team, took home five Stanley Cups to the delight and amazement of ticket holders everywhere. New teams such as the Anaheim Ducks have been formed and are a ticket buyer's dream, as professional hockey is more available than ever. Players from all over the world struggle for a chance to contribute to the faster than light motion of National Hockey League. This season, don't miss out on a golden opportunity to buy tickets to watch the best of the best in the NHL carve out a growing legacy on the ice while racing for a chance to drink from the Stanley Cup.

NHL in Canada

While professional hockey has its roots based in Canada, the United States entered the fold in 1924 with the addition of the Boston Bruins hockey team and shortly afterwards, the arrival of NHL teams based in Pittsburgh and New York. Cities located on the eastern seaboard of the U.S. were more geographically well placed to attract ticket buying fans, as the colder weather was far more conducive to the American appeal of the indoor sport. However, the NHL suffered a major decline in profits due to a lack of ticket sales during the Great Depression and was noticeably absent from professional play. As the world entered the middle of the century and the second great war was looming on the horizon, only a handful of team were available to satisfy a fans desire to get a hold of a ticket to NHL action.
