NFL Pro Bowl Tickets

Like most professional sports leagues the National Football League (NFL) has an All-Star Game. Unlike other All-Star games which are played at the mid point of the regular season the NFL Pro Bowl is played the weekend after the Super Bowl. This tradition seems to go back to the beginning of the Pro Bowl in the 1930s when the game was played in January.

Before the merger the NFL All Star game in its early years saw the NFL Champions play a team made up of All Stars from the remaining teams, a format that was common to the then National Hockey League (NHL) but this ended in 1942 with the All Star game itself. In 1951 the game was revived with the Conference format. With the new NFL the Conference format has been in place since 1971.

The coaches for the respective Conferences are usually the losers of the Conference playoffs who in years other than 2010 have had three weeks to prepare for the game. The League played the Pro Bowl before the Super Bowl on 2010 which was an anomaly.

Players on both Pro Bowl teams wear their original helmets but otherwise wear Conference All Star uniforms. The NFL traditionally wears blue and white while the AFC wears red and white.

The game is something of a reward for those who have been selected as they play in Hawaii (with the exception of the 2010 Pro Bowl, played before the Super Bowl in Florida) and it not known for the hard hitting of the regular or playoff seasons. Currently each Conference has won an equal number of Pro Bowls.

With the coming of the NFL-AFL merger the game was played after the Super Bowl and with the exception of 2010 has been played in Hawaii since 1980.Selection for the Pro Bowl team comes from votes from coaches, NFL players themselves and fans. The fans are able to vote via the internet for their favorite players on the NFL's official website. As in other leagues players vie to be chosen for the Pro-Bowl as it is a sign of being the best of the best and some player contracts offer bonuses for such a selection.
