The first NBA All-Star game was played 59 years ago in Boston. Since the first all star game, every year the game has matched players from the Eastern Conference against players from the Western Conference. To date the Eastern Conference holds a 36 to 23 lead in the series.
The introductions and halftime shows are different than what you would normally see at a regular game. The introductions have a lot of fanfare, special lighting with pyrotechnics and dance music. The Halftime shows are longer as you will get performances by some great artist. Some of these have included Beyonce, Mariah Carey, Alicia Keys, Shakira and Out Kast.

The players for each conference are picked in two ways. The first way players are picked is each starting position is filled by fan ballot voting. Once all of the starting positions are filled the reserves are picked by the head coaches from each conference. Coaches are not allowed to vote for the players on their own team.
The rules for the All-Star game are the same as a regular game. The one noticeable difference is that players typically try alley oops and spectacular dunks. These are usually well received by the fans in the stands. The final score of the game is usually much higher than a normal game would be. This is due to limiting the defensive efforts allow players to try the shots that the fans won't forget. When the score is close going into the forth quarter players get more competitive to try and give there conference the win.
