MGMT are the duo of Ben Goldwasser and Andrew VanWyngarden. MGMT got together in Brooklyn and exploded after the release of their major label debut, "Oracular Spectacular." They are "in concert" tickets favorites that have crossed over into the mainstream with their infectious style.

MGMT History

MGMT have worked with the rapper Kid Cudi, Chiddy Bang, Beck, The Flaming Lips, and Devendra Banhart. Their more psychedelic, harder rocking second album was produced by Spacemen 3 member Sonic Boom and features the name-drop hits "Brian Eno" and "Song For Dan Treacy", the latter of punk legends Television Personalities.

The album received good reviews and expanded their fan base from dance crowds to rock fans with its harder edge. The album even features vocals by Jennifer Herrema of scuzz-rockers Royal Trux. In 2010 they appeared on both "Saturday Night Live" and "Late Night with David Letterman."

At a recent concert in Honolulu, MGMT played to a sold-out crowd of 1,500 screaming fans. The band worked the stage and the crowd hard, rocking with the intensity of Roky Erickson's 13th Floor Elevators at their peek. They played "Future Reflections" and "Destrokk" before even pausing to take a breath. For the next hour and a half the crowd went nuts as the band tore into new songs "It's Working" and "Song for Dan Treacy." The latter song, along with the new album title track "Congratulations" allowed everyone to catch their breath (band and crowd both) to revel in its Syd Barrett influenced psychedelia. Before it was all over, MGMT made sure to play the smash hit "Kids" to wild adulation. MGMT left. Everyone was drenched and completely satisfied.

Previous MGMT live shows featured the duo with pre-recorded backing tracks a-la early Ween, but on this tour they will feature a full band, fitting their new-found harder rocking style. You can catch MGMT on the U.S. leg of their tour buy purchasing tickets to the shows.
