Columbia Records is proud to present: superstars Maxwell and Jill Scott in a twenty-one city tour together. The tour begins in Cleveland on May 21. Maxwell has two recent Grammy Awards and Jill Scott is the toast of Los Angeles with her lead role in an HBO short series. Scott's "The No.1 Ladies' Detective Agency" balances with Maxwell's number one album, the platinum-plus selling "BLACK summers night," both receiving equal critical accolades. Jill Scott will be performing hits spanning a decade of hits: from her "Who Is Jill Scott? Words and Sounds Vol.1" through her new "The Light Of The Sun," to be released sometime during the tour. Tickets to Maxwell and Jill Scott are available for all below venues. The music of Maxwell, like Erykah Badu and D'Angelo are the roots of today's "new soul" music.
We will notify you by email when your tickets become available.
Maxwell was born in Brooklyn, New York. "BLACK summers night," never mind the punctuation, is on many music publications' "Best of" end-of-the-year picks from 2009. It is to be the first of a series of three, the capitalized word will change with each release. (The next one is slated to be: "black SUMMERS night.") "BLACK is a much darker but soulful," said Maxwell. "SUMMERS' will lean more toward the gospel side and NIGHT will be more of a cool collection of slow jams." Maxwell has "energetic, crowd-pleasing performances" said the Chicago Tribune. 'Maxwell works his band like Cab Calloway and James Brown once did." His New York and Brooklyn attitude permeate his every release. His influences, Marvin Gaye, Stevie Wonder, and Prince echo in his work.
Jill Scott is beginning work on two new movies, garments for Ashley Stewart, the new album "The Light Of The Sun," and a cartoon. Her touring, too, has had good reviews. Audiences and critics focus on her soul singing, which can pour intimacy into a stadium or onto a recording with precision and heart, like Lauryn Hill once did, consistently. Scott is an honest singer. Her songs "Hate on Me" and "Golden" and much of the buzz over her soon-to-be released LP are positive for good reason. Ms. Scott has an image as a persuasive every-woman protagonist for survivors of misfortune. Her voice evinces the excitement felt hearing a song turn the drama of life into blues music, easing the head and feeding the soul.
