The Los Angeles Kings have been the hottest selling tickets in Los Angeles since the NHL expansion of the Western Hockey League in 1967. Jack Kent Cooke started the new franchise with a two million dollar NHL fee and then invested all of his time into building a home for them that, ultimately, became the "Fabulous Forum" in Inglewood, CA. After the start of the season, the Kings played their first game in the arena in their original colors of purple and gold on December 30, 1967.

The first season was nothing to write home about, as there was nothing royal about the Kings' defeat by the Minnesota All Stars in the playoffs. 24-42-10 was the overall standing after the second season but fans still flocked to buy tickets to see the newly crowned royalty on ice. Blake was voted as the best defenseman in the NHL and took home the Norris trophy.
