Doubleday Field has always been host to the Hall of Fame Game. Since its beginning, the Hall of Fame Game has been a game showcasing some of the able-bodied "old-timers" from some of Baseball's most famous times and teams.
Lately, the game has become an exhibition that pairs two Major League squads. Nicely timed and coordinated, this fun, light-hearted game was held, every year, close-by and on the same weekend as Induction Ceremony Weekend of Baseball's Hall of Fame.
Today the Hall of Fame game is played in May and sometimes June to better fit travel schedules and to maximize the attention to properly celebrate the all-time great players of baseball. It stands as baseball's last remaining in-season exhibition game. Maybe the stats and outcome do not count in official standings but in the hearts and memories of the fans lucky enough to attend, these Hall of Fame games live on forever, as a reminder, as a celebration of excellence.
