God of Carnage is comedy about the desperate extremes of human nature. It tells the story of the Raleighs and the Novaks. Alan and Annette Raleigh meet with Veronica Novack and her husband Michael to discuss a fight their children have had and to try and find a proper resolution. During the fight, one of the boys was injured and that obviously causes an extremely uncomfortable situation for both couples. They have to try and come to a decent resolution and figure out how to handle this problem between their sons. The fun starts when we realize that God of Carnage is a no holds barred affair that doesn't take sides. It shows the extreme severity of the conflict for both sets of parents. The Raleighs and the Novacks are poised to defend their children and will do anything to make their respective points come across loud and clear.
As God of Carnage starts off from the perspective of the adults, things quickly erupt and the parents disintegrate into childish imbeciles. God of Carnage is one of the funniest shows in years and has earned a place right beside some of the classics of musical theater. With her play, Yasmina Reza has tapped into the core of human nature in that we never truly grow out of the children we once were. Audiences on two continents and in countries worldwide have found that they relate all too much to the Raleighs and the Novacks. God of Carnage is consistently produced with the finest Broadway actors, actresses, directors, and production teams on the scene today.
The middle-class has never looked as bad as the world we experience in God of Carnage. This show has found its way to the top of many lists for this season as a 'show to see'. Now is as good a time as any to experience the power of theater and actually be able to walk away with a much bigger perspective on yourself and the people around you. You may not like what you see. God of Carnage audiences always relate to the men and women who this play is about, because it is about us. This is just a small slice of life that, while seemingly insignificant in the long run, can have a profound effect on a person. God of Carnage is definitely one of the most viciously potent plays that Broadway has ever seen.
Theater audiences that see God of Carnage from Zurich to France and then London to the United States, absolutely fall in love with Yasmina Reza's play. God of Carnage made its official debut in '06 and has only gotten better each year it is performed. The book has also been translated into several different languages, with the names of characters repeatedly changed. The U.S. production has gone on to win the Tony Award for best play. Needless to say, God of Carnage reviews have been stellar. The comedy that is derived from the utter silliness of human nature is something that everyone can unfortunately relate to.
God of Carnage provides a well needed dose of painfully honest comedic medicine that audiences have been asking for and can now receive. Whether or not you're ready for it is yet to be seen.
