George Wallace is known for his big, broad smile, his great line delivery, and for being very, very funny. George Wallace has been all over the place in many movies, TV shows, and many different variety of comedy shows. Chances are you've seen him somewhere, and you'll certainly remember he was damn funny.
George Wallace wanted to be a comedian since he was a little kid, and once he was old enough, he moved to New York to try and make it happen. While he lived in New York, he had another struggling comedian for a roommate, a guy named Jerry Seinfeld (many years later, Wallace was the best man at Seinfeld's wedding).
Wallace was an advertising salesman before he broke through, and luckily enough a client at the ad agency opened up a comedy club. Wallace first hit the stage in 1977, and his first routine was as a preacher. Ironically enough, one fan has recently compared Wallace to a preacher in how he's in tune with the audience, and knows how to get them rolling.
Wallace moved to California in 1978, and wrote for The Red Foxx Show. Wallace was also a Comedy Store regular, and back in the days when comedians opened for singers, he went on the road with Donna Summer, Smokey Robinson, Diana Ross and George Benson (Wallace also opened for Tom Jones for five straight years).
Eventually George became known from making many TV appareances, and won Best Male Standup Comedian in 1995 in the American Comedy Awards. He also made many guest appearances on radio shows with Issac Hayes and Tom Joyner, eventually got his own HBO special.
Like his former roommate Seinfeld, Wallace's forte is observational comedy, and he often starts routines by saying, 'I be thinking, 'I'm a sick person,' and 'Don't get me started.' He also launches into routines about 'people who need their ass kicked,' 'people that should be in jail,' and he ends his shows with the great classic comedy routine, yo mama jokes.
As one reviewer of his Vegas performance wrote, 'With one joke coming right on top of another, coupled with the brilliant and easy delivery, Wallace goes on for well over an hour with the room in continual state of amusement.' Wallace has a comment and commentary on anything and everything, but it never fails to be humorous.'
As a fan wrote in to one website, 'This was by far the best comedy show that I have ever been to. George Wallace is the best there is today. He has a great stage presence and his jokes are hilarious'¦my cheeks hurt from laughing.'
Wallace has been performing regularly in Vegas since 2004, which was initially going to be a one month gig, but the demand wouldn't let up, and he's been making Vegas laugh ever since.
Wallace loves his job, and he loves making people laugh. 'When you come to me, you forget your utility bills,' Wallace told Jet Magazine. 'You forget your family problems, your divorce '“ you forget it all.' And you're laughing all the way.
