Boston Celtic Punks Dropkick Murphys are on tour this summer in support of their new album "Live On Lansdowne." Tickets are available now. Dropkick Murphys punk-up the traditional Irish sound of The Pogues with the energy of bands like The Clash, Stiff Little Fingers, and Social Distortion. If you are a fan of any of these bands, you owe it to yourself to see the Dropkick Murphys live. Their shows are always rousing, fist-pumping sweat-drenched affairs that leave audiences drained and satisfied. Every day is St. Patricks Day at a Dropkick Murphys show.
Avowed Red Sox fans, the Dropkick Murphys got their start in 1996 in Boston at a friend's barbershop. They quickly developed a local fan base in the large Irish-American community. Word spread and they were playing punk shows all over town. They released their first album, "Do or Die," in 1998 on the indie label Hellcat. Their followup, 1999's "The Gang's All Here" was a more hardcore affair. They gained some airplay for the video of the single "10 Years of Service" on MTV. 2001's "Sing Loud, Sing Proud" found the band developing their sound, adding traditional elements. The album features collaborations with the band's hero Shane MacGowan of The Pogues and Colin McFaul of the legendary Oi! punk band Cocksparrer. 2003's "Blackout" featured guest vocals by Stephanie Dougherty of the band Deadly Sins and yielded a hit single, "Walk Away." In 2006 their song "I'm Shipping Up to Boston" was featured in the Jack Nicholson and Leonardo DiCaprio film "The Departed" by Martin Scorcese. The song was also featured in The Simpsons parody version, "The Debarted." In 2007 the band's beloved Boston Red Sox would at long last win their first World Series Championship. The band played at several of the games and on a float at the victory parade, accompanied by several players. In 2009 the band shared the stage with Aerosmith in a Boston "Hometown Heroes" concert where they performed the Boston-centric Standells hit "Dirty Water." That year they also appeared on stage with Bruce Springsteen & The E Street Band at their Boston concert. The band's guitarist proposed to his girlfriend onstage for which Bruce played the song "So Young and In Love." The band's latest album, "Live On Lansdowne" was released in March, 2010 for which the band is now engaged in a massive world tour.
Get your tickets now to see the legendary Celtic punkers at the House of Blues in New Orleans, the Utah State Fairgrounds in Salt Lake City, Grand Sierra in Reno, and Buster's in Lexington, Kentucky. The band will also be playing the Bonnaroo festival in Tennessee and will be joining the Vans Warped Tour in August. In Europe they will be playing the Hurricane Festival and the Southside Festival in Germany and West Coast Riot in Sweden.
