Day Out With Thomas
Many children love trains, and if your child loves trains, Day Out With Thomas is a real treat. This event is based on the kids show Thomas the Tank Engine and Friends, which came from England, and Day Out With Thomas events, which feature real trains with Thomas’ smiling moon face leading the way, go on for children in the U.S., the United Kingdom, and Australia.
Thomas the Tank Engine has rides at Zoo Park in England, Six Flags in CA, New England, and Georgia, with a Thomas Town coming to Six Flags in Maryland in 2010. There is also a Thomas Land in the United Kingdom, which reportedly brings in close to two million kids a year.

Train Fun For the Family
Thomas the Tank Engine made his debut in England in 1984 with the show Thomas and Friends. The show was based on a series of children’s books called The Railway Series, about a group of living trains and their travels that was written and created by Reverend W.V. Awdry.
The Thomas and Friends show was also known for having well known hosts who told stories and engineered the train as Mr. Conductor including Beatle Ringo Starr, comedian George Carlin, and A-list movie stars Alec Baldwin and Pierce Brosnan.
As one mom wrote in on, the box set of DVDs of the show is “a HUGE hit in our house.” Another mom on the site, whose child is clearly in the train phase, “My three year old son is just crazy about this show and loves all trains.” Clearly if your kids love trains, Thomas is their hero.
Travels With Thomas
Thomas the Tank Engine has been merchandised in many fun ways for kids, whether its with toys, direct to video movies, games and puzzles, kids clothes, bedspreads, sodas, and more, and a great logical step was to have real train journeys for kids.
A grandmother who didn’t know what Thomas the Tank Engine was was delighted to learn about it through her grandchildren, “all five and under. I’ve watched the boys play with their Thomas trains set up elaborate tracks on their train table. What amazed me the most was that they knew each train’s name just by looking at the face.”
She went with her grand kids to a Day Out With Thomas day, and they just loved it.
