Born David Seth Kotkin, David Copperfield began working on magic when he was ten years old, first calling himself Davino the Boy Magician, and was admitted into the Society of American Magicians when he was 14, the youngest person ever to be admitted. He also began teaching magic at New York University when he was sixteen.

Copperfield was shy as a young man and he saw magic as a way to come out of his shell. Magic made you cool with your peers, you could fit in and hang out with girls, but along with magic comes deep traditions and respect for the art.

Clearly, at age 14 he was taking it seriously enough to be brought in to the magician's society, but it wasn't just his fellow magicians Copperfield had tremendous respect for. Cooperfield was also influenced by dance greats Gene Kelly and Fred Astaire for their effortless grace and gravity-defying moves, Orson Welles for his filmmaking genius (Welles was also a magician and often frequented The Magic Castle in Hollywood), as well as Walt Disney, for the vibrant wonder and magic he brought to the world.

By the time Copperfield reached young adulthood, he was already performing in a Chicago musical, The Magic Man, and had changed his stage name to David Copperfield from the Charles Dickens novel. He also had a gig performing magic at the Pagoda Hotel in Hawaii when he was still in his teenage years.

Copperfield also did a lot of television appearances, first appearing (and disappearing) on The Magic of ABC in 1977, then doing yearly The Magic of David Copperfield specials, starting in 1978 and ending in 1998.

Copperfield has put together over twenty magic specials for television and has won over twenty Emmys, and his shows have been seen by over three billion people. He's also been a major hit taking his act on the road, the road now leading to Las Veags.

Copperfield's also been a big hit performing on the road, the road now leading to Las Vegas, which promises 'an intimate evening of Grand Illusion.' Las Vegas Review Journal has raved, 'Copperfield's best illusions are still unparalleled on the strip.'

A fan who attended the show wrote, 'The tricks were great and I was especially impressed when Copperfield appeared a couple of feet in front of me during the mist trick. I found myself wishing the show could go on for another hour.'
