On May 20, 2010 Dave Matthews will join his friend Tim Reynolds in playing a benefit for the Jane Goodall Institute. The concert will be in Washington, DC. The benefit celebrates the 50th anniversary of Jane Goodall's work in Tanzania, East Africa. Jane Goodall is a famous British primatologist famous for studying human evolution and her work with chimpanzees.

Dave Matthews hails from South Africa and was working as a bartender in Charlottesville, Virginia when he started the band. Dave Matthews Band released their first album, a live CD "Under the Table and Dreaming." In 1994, their first studio album, "Remember Two Things" was released. Like most jam bands, DMB have created a reputation as an exuberant, energetic live show. DMB slowly built up their rabid fan base by word of mouth. Commercial success inevitably followed. DMB are a multi-racial multi-instrumental band, adept at incorporating many varying styles of music: from reggae to rock to folk to native South African rhythms. All points in between is the terrain that DMB can cover, which just about covers it all. Dave Matthews Band put all styles in a blender and emerged with their own sound, instantly identifiable, not least of their sound is the distinct vocalist. They created the term "the Dave Matthews Band sound."

Dave Matthews Band released their seventh studio album, "Big Whiskey and the GrooGrux King" in 2009 and will be touring in support of that release. This year also saw the release of their 15th live album. It is hardly surprising that this terrific live band has released so many live albums.
