Angel certainly looks the part with his long hair and dark mystique. Angel brings his own brand of magic reminiscent of the Great Houdini with a modern day edge.

Born Christopher Nicholas Sarantakos, Angel hails from Long Island, New York. Angel said he became hooked on magic when his aunt showed him a card trick when he was seven years old. "From that day on, I was hooked," Angel said. "I felt this incredible sense of power and began to invent illusions."

Criss Angel was fascinated with the legendary magician Houdini, and he began selling out his magic shows when he was twelve years old. When Angel was a teenager he regularly performed at parties, night clubs, and events.

Criss Angel studied gymnastics, which compliments his magic and sleight of hand, and Angel is also a 7th degree black belt. Angel also played in various bands, hence his rock image.

The A&E show Criss Angel Mindfreak was filmed at the Aladdin Hotel for the first two seasons, the Luxor Hotel for Season 3.

Criss Angel was a big hit at the box office and A&E's #1 top-rated show. In his show believe, Angel performs tricks such as levitation and walking on water to name a few, but also performs an illusion where he gets steamrolled while laying on glass.

Then came Criss Angel Believe, his partnership with Cirque du Soleil. Originally he thought of taking his act to Broadway, but Cirque du Soleil seemed a perfect match for a wonderfully colorful and inventive show design, and the MGM Mirage was willing to put up big money to stage this show, to the tune of $100 million.

It took more than a year of meetings and negotiations, but it finally came together in a big way at the Mirage, and opened on Halloween night 2008. It has been estimated that in total Angel will put on over 5,000 shows in the ten years he's booked, and will perform for close to 16 million people.

The show name, Believe, also comes from Houdini. It's a secret code word he gave to his wife, telling her if people wanted to contact him in the spirit world after he passed away, use the word 'Believe' as the password.
