Cheech And Chong Tickets

It is one of the most anticipated reunions in history that many said would never happen. Van Halen? The Eagles? The Police? No, Cheech and Chong, of course. “This is a moment that I’ve been looking forward to for many, many years,” Chong said once the reunion was official. They had such a legacy, and such a history that we couldn’t escape it, even if we tried. At the end of the day they looked at each other and thought, We better do this now man.

They have been called the original Beavis and Butthead, were the originators of stoner humor, were major pioneers for Latin American comedians, and were one of the funniest comedy duos of the ‘70’s and ‘80’s. Now Cheech and Chong are finally back together, and it’s been long overdue.

High Times With Cheech and Chong

Cheech Marin and Tommy Chong first came together in 1970. Throughout their career, they released many hit albums through Warner Brothers, including their self-titled debut (which included their legendary “Dave’s not here” routine), Sleeping Beauty, Cheech and Chong’s Greatest Hit, The Wedding Album (which included their hilarious rock parody “Earache My Eye”), and more.

Cheech and Chong were a big live draw as well back in the ‘70’s, especially among college kids and rock and roll fans (they were discovered performing at the legendary L.A. rock venue The Troubadour by ‘60’s music mogul Lou Adler, and had their first reunion press conference at that club).

Cheech and Chong also gained a major following through the runaway success of their first and best movie, Up in Smoke, which was the sleeper hit of 1978. Up In Smoke started the tradition of movies advertising on bus benches because a lot of outlets didn’t want to promote the film (another funny bit of trivia, in Up in Smoke the word “man” is said 295 times in the 86 minute movie).

Tommy Chong

Cheech and Chong kept making movies and recording comedy albums until they went their separate ways in 1987. Fans always hoped for a reunion, even when Cheech made it clear the possibility was very remote. But they said the same thing about The Eagles, The Police, Black Sabbath, and many other impossible reunions that eventually came to be.

The Cheech and Chong reunion was officially announced in the summer of 2008 to the delight of their fans, their first tour in twenty five years, and they’re still touring. Cheech and Chong live are very much the same act fans went to see back in the day, with a lot of sketches and parody songs. There are modern jokes and references, but as one reviewer put it, “the balance of Cheech & Chong’s routine stuck to rock & roll style comedy not necessarily in that order.”

As another reviewer wrote of Cheech and Chong live, the duo “remain one of the last of a breed of sketch comedy acts, like Monty Python, Mel Brooks & Carl Reiner. Their acting chops are as crucial as their comic timing.”
