Farmers Insurance has inherited the long industrious bygone days of a great PGA Open. They are assuredly committed. Impressively, having had one dozen different names, this golf event'”now the Farmers Insurance Open'”has been an officially sanctioned professional golf tour since 1927. For a long time this event has swung, oscillating sponsors and venues. Early, fondly, for its earliest dominating player, it was called 'Diegel's Game.' Then, it was cancelled two out of its first four years. Later, it was referred to as the 'San Diego Swing' tournament. Meantime, it grew as PGA event under tutelage from the venerable Shearson Lehman Brothers. Additionally, the Open had a short drive with Buick, recently ended.

Known today as the 'West Coast Swing,' the Farmers Insurance Open is perfecting its golf game. In 2010, the one-shot difference maximized exhilaration throughout the entire final round. Right to the bitter end, Ben Crane and Michael Sim battled in the greens and bunkers. It came down to a Sim chip shot which he missed. While, Crane sunk a long putt and grabbed the surprise victory. Some very good golf indeed has been played here in recent years. Torrey Pines in La Jolla is quickly adding to the memories of this historic tournament. The longevity of this invitational is a proud PGA accomplishment. The tournament is as unruffled as ever, nice easy golf in the warm city of Saint Didacus de Alcalá: beautiful.

The tourney has been through much and given much fun, change, and excitement in return. It has had ups and downs. Arnold Palmer was great in 1961. Nobody played in 1930. Mickelson who is great in many venues, here, too, has won the trophy. Twiggs, Pate, and Crane, all have been course champions of this tourney. The fans have enjoyed different venues throughout the years: Torrey Pines, San Diego Country Club, Singing Hills, and Rancho Bernardo Country Club (prior to its becoming an inn).
