Fueled by the #1 hits "You Give Love a Bad Name," "Livin' On a Prayer," and the top ten single, "Wanted Dead Or Alive," which became a major anthem live, the "Slippery When Wet" album was a music business phenomenon, spending eight weeks at #1, and selling 12 million copies in the States (28 million world-wide).

Bon Jovi was determined to prove his success was not a fluke, and he followed up with another #1 album in 1988 with "New Jersey," which reportedly holds the record for the most top ten singles released from a hard rock album.
