Blue Man Group are a performance art group, three guys with chrome dome heads painted bright blue (obviously). You've probably seen them on TV performing, going nuts, and performing percussion. Onstage The Blue Man Group don't talk, nor do they have ears, are tall (usually 5'10 and up), and wear black clothes like beatniks, making their bright blue heads really stand out.
At first, the Blue Men would talk after the shows, but then they decided to always stay in character and stay silent, and not ruin the impression they really are a bunch of wild, bright blue headed creatures (they would also give fans autographs, which were smudges of blue paint). However, it should be pointed out they once changed their color to Orange for a soda commercial.
The Blue Man Group are three guys, Phil Stanton, Chris Wink, and Matt Goldman, and they first came together in 1987. Since their humble beginnings first performing in Central Park, they have performed all over the world.
The Blue Man Group live shows are really an extravaganza to behold where they use percussion, and the facial expressions they are limited to, to put together great performances onstage.
When going around their wbesite trying to learn more about the group, one section is labeled Experience where you can Watch, Listen, and Play, and it is indeed a great experience to watch the Blue Man Group, and listen to them play (they also have a section that helps children called Blue School).
For a unique, onstage experience like The Blue Man Group, Vegas is a great place to see them. As with many big Vegas shows, the theater where The Blue Man Group are performing was built especially for them.
One review of the Blue Man Group was headlined 'High Tech Meets Goo With Blue Man Group.' As the reviewer continued, 'Buried among the ooze and flying paint, the absurd and sardonic messages that whiz by electronically is a sharp exposition of the tangled issues facing the information age.'
In other words, even with their limited facial expressions, The Blue Man Group can get good points across simply. You'll have a good time, you laugh, and also walk away fulfilled with the messages The Blue Man Group can get across with their performance art.
What about the regular theater goers who aren't professional critics? One remarked, 'I love theater. Blue Man Group takes live theater to a whole new level. The show was evocative. It was informative. It was visually appealing. It was interactive. It was funny. Words can not really explain the variety of tidbits that stimulated your senses through this entire experience.
Another reviewer has raved, 'Simply stated, Blue Man Group is cooler than cool, hipper than hip. There is no audience too sophisticated, or too unsophisticated, for what they ofer. It's about as universal as the theater gets, and I defy anyone to avoid having a rewarding time.' Or as their commercials for their Vegas engagement instruct us, 'Open your mind. Lose yourself.'
