By the summer of 1977, they started Big Apple Circus, and the circus started touring around back east in 1983, and it did the first co-circus joint venture with China in 1988. Big Apple Circus started touring outside of the eastern seaboard in 1996.
Among the stars under the Big Apple big top include the following performers: Kevin Venardos, who is the circus ringmaster, who appeared on television’s Guiding Light, and previously was the youngest ringmaster for Barnum and Bailey. The circus also features Regina Dobrovitskaya, a Russian gymnast, clown performer and clown college graduate Barry Lubin, several circus troupes, and more.
Michael Christensen is still the creative director of Big Apple Circus, and the team also includes an artistic director, costume designer, sound designer, choreographer, musical director with a great band, and more.
