BellSouth Classic was one of the names given to the PGA golf tournament from the Atlanta metropolitan area. It was a classic that continually altered its name'”the Atlanta Invitational, Atlanta Open, Atlanta Classic, and the Georgia-Pacific Atlanta Golf Classic. Then the classic PGA tournament attained sponsorship from BellSouth. Later, the tourney became the AT&T Classic. BellSouth Classic is part of a PGA event that was founded in 1967. Most recently, it was played in the suburb of Duluth, outside of Atlanta. During its Atlantic Open years, 'Atlanta Country Club,' in Marietta, Georgia (also outside of Atlanta) hosted the tourney. It was often confused with the AT&T Champions Classic. The deep resonance needed for success with fans and players was waxing for several years, until it waned in its last days. Potentially problematic was the event had a wandering tournament date. It had been held in mid-May, April, and late March. It did have some extremely exciting matches! Over the years, Mickelson, Woods, and Kite all excelled there. Before the 2009 season, The BellSouth was cancelled permanently (it was called the AT&T Classic at the time). In 2008, Ryuji Imada was its last winner.
