Bank Of America Colonial Golf Tournament Tickets

Made famous by Ben Hogan, the Colonial Golf Tournament boasts winners of all the major Opens and the Masters Tournament. The Colonial Invitational in 1946, as it was originally named, is a tournament that has withstood constant changes of name. Since 2007 it is known as the Crowne Plaza Invitational at Colonial. From 2003-06 it was known as the Bank of America Colonial, after the name of the sponsors. It is an annual event on the US PGA Tour, held in May at the Colonial Country Club in Fort Worth, Texas.

The PGA Tour tradition known as the 'Champion's Choice' invitation is solitary in its type: every year, several former Colonial champs select two young players, who are technically ineligible but deserve a chance to play, to be allowed to compete in the invitation. Some great pros made their first inroads that way. Examples of professionals who made their very first appearance at Colonial (as the year's 'Champion's Choice') include: Tom Weiskopf, Craig Stadler, Curtis Strange, Mark O'Meara, David Love, and Al Geiberger. Dave Stockton, in 1967, won the tourney as a 'Champ's Choice,' the one and only time that occurred.

No matter what you call this tournament, it's a great one. Once the Colonial Invitational, famous as the Bank of America Colonial Invitational, this tournament will be most tightly associated, always, with Fort Worth and Ben Hogan. It is Hogan's baby. This tournament in Texas is called the Texas 'Hogan's Alley''”slang for yet another place profoundly influenced by the master of the swing: Mr. William Ben Hogan.

Of note to the tournament: Ben Hogan grew up in Ft. Worth as a caddy and is now indisputably one of the greats of the game. Hogan won the first Colonial Invitational in 1946. He has won it four times.

The Crowne Plaza Invitational at Colonial is the tournament on the PGA tour that has the longest record being played at the same course. It is played annually every spring in Fort Worth, Texas (home of the tournament's hero Ben Hogan). The long-running host course is the Colonial Country Club. Of the four invitational tournaments held on the PGA Tour, only this one is still being held at its original site.
