The site of the speedway, which opened in 1997, was originally a steel mill. It was historical by nature because when it was founded, it became the first ever steel mill that was set on the western side of the Rocky Mountains. When the industrial facility closed its doors in 1983, it fell into complete disrepair and resembled a wasteland more than the future home of a five star sports venue. The motion picture 'The Terminator' was partially filmed on location at the spot when a post-apocalyptic type of set was needed. Penske Motorsports Inc. eventually acquired the land and opened the California Speedway which later sold its naming rights to The Automobile Association of America; one of only two NASCAR tracks to ever do such a thing.
Since the Auto Club Speedway sold the first tickets to a race, they have also featured drag races, motorcycle races, and a variety of other professional motorsports on the various infield track types and configurations that adorn the facility. The first NASCAR event at the Auto Club Speedway for which a sold out crowd had bought tickets was won by Ken Schrader in the Winston West Series. The following day, Jeff Gordon took home the first Cup race for which NASCAR enthusiasts in the state of California were able to pick up trackside seats.
In the years that followed, many major NASCAR events were held at the Auto Club Speedway. The Sprint Cup series saw its first win by legend in the making Kyle Busch who was a mere 20 years old on race day. A ticket to that race was a hot item back then. Just try to imagine what it is worth now'¦ At the time, Busch was the youngest driver to ever win a Sprint Cup race. A few years later, the record was beaten by newcomer Joey Logano who was 19 at the time.
NASCAR fans can always purchase the best tickets for the cream-of-the-crop seats at the Auto Club Speedway. The NASCAR holds the larger than life Craftsman Truck Series, as well as the Busch Series in the venue when it is not occupied by other racing events such as the Champ Car World Series and various motorcycle races on the various road courses that are also on the grounds.
The Auto Club Speedway is rather new to the world of competitive motor sports racing but continues to sell tickets to capacity crowds. Whether lined with adoring NASCAR enthusiasts who never fail to buy every possible race tickets, or seen from afar by fans of movies like 'The Bucket List' starring Morgan Freeman and Jack Nicholson, the Auto Club Speedway is the fastest track in a town that happens to border one of the fastest cities in the world. This is definitely the season not to miss out on NASCAR tickets.
