Atlanta Thrashers Tickets

Founded in 1999, the Atlanta Thrashers became a new team for which hockey fans could buy tickets to see in the city. Formerly home to the Flames, Atlanta was now the home of a team whose name was derived from the state bird of Georgia the Brown Thrasher. Curt Fraser was brought in from Orlando and Din Waddel took on the mantle of General Manager. Hopes were high as the team assembled in 1998 and tickets began to fly out of the box office and into the hands of eager fans who wanted to see the hot new hockey team that the city had to offer.

As one of three new expansion franchises that year, the Atlanta Thrashers started the season of as any new team would when working to break in their ice. Despite few wins, ticket holders were not disappointed as players such as Andrew Brunette thrashed their way around the rink. However, the only thing thrashed seemed to be the Atlanta Thrashers, as they bottomed out the Southeast Division with a meager 39 points from a 14-61-7-4 overall season record; the worst in the league.

Thrashers History

Don Waddel brought in goaltender Byron Dafoe to lead the team with his experience for the 2002-03 season. Bob Hartley replaced coach Curt Fraser due to the fact that the Atlanta Thrashers were in less than perfect shape, much to the dismay of both the organization and the ticket holders. Amazing seats do not mean much if the team is not on point and the Thrashers were in need of a serious change. The team kicked into shape and the Thrashers played over .500 while finishing third in the league. Hartley was awarded MVP in the All-Star game with 41 goals and 48 assists. They had a high of 89 points. With three red hot players, the Atlanta Thrashers were a team to watch and became even more of a great ticket for both old and new fans alike.

2003-04 was a devastating year for the team, as Dany Heatley and Dan Snyder were involved in an extremely horrible car accident during the pre-season. Heatley suffered severe injuries to his shoulder and knees. Snyder fared much worse. He was in a coma and suffering from massive head trauma. After a week of fighting, Dan Snyder passes away from injuries from the car wreck. Emotional stress and legal charges kept Heatley off the ice for the season and the Thrashers did not even make the playoffs. Heatley was also traded away and added Marian Hossa.

Fans gathering at Philips Arena continually buy tickets on a regular and seasonal basis with hopes of one day seeing their Atlanta Thrashers take home the Stanley Cup. The NHL is filled with dreams laced with razor sharp ice and hard pounding, stick clashing action. A fan can only truly experience the power of this team by picking up a ticket to see them in action. The Thrashers continue to fly on the wings of their namesake, the state bird with their fans on each wing.

Ilya Kovalchuk and Dany Heatly were brought in to help the Atlanta Thrashers in the 2001-02 season was also two new reasons for people to pick up tickets for what was easily the fastest moving event in town. Despite being in last place at the end of the season, it was truly remarkable that both of the team members were in strong contention for the Calder trophy which marked the player with the title of best rookie in the NHL. With 26 goals and a total of 67 points, the trophy was awarded to Heatly.
