As one of baseball's youngest and most recent expansion teams, the Arizona Diamondbacks have produced more excitement in a team's short history than almost any other team in Major League Baseball. In 1998, Jerry Colangelo and Phoenix county officials broke initiating bottles over the rotunda railings of the team's Bank One Ballpark near Phoenix, Arizona.
It was a moment to acknowledge the birth of a new team in one of the country's most captivating scenery. The Diamondbacks enjoyed the franchise's first regular season game on March 31, 1998 in front of 50,179 fans. For history buffs, Travis Lee hit the franchise's first homer, first run and first RBI and the runs have not stopped coming since.
While there are a number of teams that have been around since the 50's who have yet to have a pitcher who has thrown a no-hitter, on May 18, 2004 the D-Back's leading pitcher Randy Johnson threw not only a no-hitter, but a perfect game against the Atlanta Braves. The D-Backs won the division championship in 2007 and came just a buck short of doing it again in 2008.
Though 2009 was a bit of a disappointing year for the D-Backs it was still a year of great excitement that generated a high attendance with excellent ticket sales. On May 4, the team's rendered one of the rarest moments in the game when Josh Wilson flipped the ball to Felipe Lopez who tossed to Conor Jackson for a triple play against the division leading Los Angeles Dodgers. The team features two all-star players with Justin Upton and Dan Haren who always attract interest in Arizona Diamondback ticket sales.
With the return of Jarrod Parker in 2010 Arizona Diamondbacks tickets will be a hot item. Look for the D-Backs to get back some of that magic that made them World Champs in 2001 and Division Champs as recently as 2007.
The uniform of The D-Backs reflects their uniqueness and distinctive presence in the game. In contrast to the classic pinstripes of most of their opponents, the D-Backs wear purple caps and jerseys. In addition to that, what else can you say about a team that sports a swimming pool in right field of their home field!
In 2001 the D-Backs became the youngest expansion team in MLB history to win a World Series and they did it against the mighty New York Yankees who are actually older than the entire state of Arizona. With Randy Johnson and a courageous and heroic effort from co-MVP pitcher Curt Schilling the D-Backs won an underdog, Rocky Balboa-like battle against the leagues wealthiest, most intimidating and dominant opponent in the New York Yankees.
