Awe-inspiring views from the Northview Golf & Country Club are sorely missed, as is the Air Canada Golf Championship, which ended in 2002.
There have been eight different Championship winners from Canadian venues affiliated with this championship: seven from 1996 to 2002, plus Ferree in 1958. (Another noteworthy golf championship from Canada was when Finsterwald unofficially won the British Columbia Open Invitational in 1955.)
The PGA, in the past, has operated at least one Canadian event per year. It is expected to remain involved in Canadian venues with the same frequency in the future.
The RBC Canadian Open is still a vital PGA tournament and has been around since 1904. Air Canada is the largest shipping transportation airliner in Canada.
The famous design of Arnold Palmer's championship courses in Surrey are no longer featured on the PGA tour. For four years, British Columbia's Northview was home to the Air Canada Championship PGA Tour. It was the third Canadian Open to become a sanctioned golf tournament.
Mike Weir won the Championship when it first became the 'Air Canada.' Jim Ferree and Guy Boros won the tourney when it was called the 'Vancouver Open Invitational' and 'Greater Vancouver Open,' respectively.
