AFC Playoffs Tickets

As part of the Post Season of the National Football League (NFL) the teams of the American Football Conference (AFC) that meet to play in single elimination games to determine which team from the AFC will represent the Conference in that year's Super Bowl.

Because of the complexity of the schedules and the results and inter division win/loss records it is usually unclear which teams will either make the playoffs or will play whom until usually the last few games of the season are played. Some division leaders clinch the playoff spot earlier but the teams on the cusp become Wild Cards and their hopes are to upset the Division Winners.

The current Playoff format has the two Division winners with the lowest wins playing the Wild Card teams. This is called Wild Card Weekend or the Wild Card Round. The Wild Card teams play at the Division winners' stadiums.

Wild Card weekend leads to the Division Round where the winners of the Wild Card games play the two Division winners with the best records. The winners of the Wild Card games play this game at the Division winners' stadium.

The winners from those games play in the AFC Championship with the winner of that game going on to the Super Bowl. This is the Conference Championships Weekend. The location is determined by the record of the two teams. In some cases a season winning record has been perfect giving the home field to one team regardless of whom they would be likely to play.

The winner of the AFC Championship game has been awarded the Lamar Hunt Trophy since 1984. Mr. Hunt was the founder of the former American Football League that later merged with the National Football League.

Currently the National Football Conference holds a slight edge in wins at the Super Bowl of 23 wins to the 21 wins of the AFC teams.
